Events launched to help Scotland keep its promise to young people from care

The Promise was designed to make sure care experienced are supported

A new range of events launched today (28 November) to support the promise made to care experienced children and young people.

The Promise Scotland is launching new in person Promise Learning Collaboratives and Online Sessions, following feedback from those working in the sector on the need for spaces to share ideas and learning on the promise.

The promise, which was made in 2020, is that care experienced children and young people in Scotland will grow up loved, safe and respected.

It was created following the Independent Care Review, and involved a range of actions to change the way the ‘care system’ in Scotland works.

The events are part of a revised support function from The Promise Scotland which is focused on supporting partners across Scotland to align with Plan 24-30, Scotland’s route map to keeping the promise by 2030.

In addition to the online sessions and in person learning collaboratives, Regional Networks will continue to be set up across Scotland, to give a space for regional focused development.

Alison Sutherland, head of support at The Promise Scotland, said: “This revised support offer, with a new series of events, can help all corporate parents and those working in children’s services roles to come together regularly to network, share practice, problem solve, learn and collaborate.

“The aim is to help develop understanding on the work of change across Scotland.

“Learning from the events will be shared nationally and help to target support and resource where it is most needed.”
