The Australian based group Macquarie is giving away bumper donations to organisations from across the world to mark its 50th year

Larger charities that are looking to make a difference are being given the chance to secure significant funding.

Financial firm Macquarie is looking to mark its 50th anniversary by giving away fifty million Australian dollars.

The company is set to give a share of the pot – which amounts to around £27m – to five organisations from across the globe.

The funding will be delivered over a five-year period, and aims to build on an eligible organisation’s ability to address an area of social need.

To be eligible, organisations need to be a registered non-profit group with an annual turnover of above $A4m (£2.4m).

A statement from Macquarie said: “Supporting the communities in which we live and work has been an important part of our activities since our inception in 1969. In that time, our people have devoted thousands of hours to non-profit organisations around the world, and contributed more than $A330 million alongside the Macquarie Group Foundation to drive social change at the local community level.

“We are delighted to mark our 50th anniversary by extending this tradition with a further $A50 million commitment to initiate or build on bold ideas which address areas of social need. We are encouraging non-profits to be imaginative in their thinking about the enduring outcomes they can achieve with this funding.”

Applications are open until 16 November and more information can be found on the Macquarie Group Foundation website.
