Grove Community Garden's greenhouse destroyed by fire

One of this year’s Scottish Charity Awards finalists has been left devastated after being targeted by vandals.

A fire was discovered at premises belonging to Grove Community Garden in Edinburgh’s Fountainbridge area on Thursday at around 5pm.

The community group’s hand-crafted greenhouse was completely destroyed in the incident.

Built from recycled materials, the greenhouse was only finished five months ago and housed hundreds of seedlings.

A spokesman for the group described the incident as “upsetting” adding it was “really sad to see people disrespect and abuse” something that had been done by the community for the community.

Local artist Sarah Marshall’s vintage lorry, which is permanently parked on the site, was also broken in to.

Three teenagers were seen in the garden and police have asked for anyone with information to contact them.

Grove Community Garden has been shortlisted in the Celebrating Communities section of the Scottish Charity Awards.

Winners will be announced at a dinner and awards night on 4 June in Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms.
