Ferguson to attend event where he'll discuss leadership and success

One of the world’s greatest ever football managers has lent his support to raise funds for socially disadvantaged adults and young people across Scotland.

Former Aberdeen and Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson will be the VIP guest at Street Soccer Scotland’s Annual Dinner where he will talk about leadership and success.

The inaugural event will take place at Glasgow’s Hilton hotel on 17 August and is expected to attract leaders from sport, business and politics to hear from one of Scotland’s most inspirational leaders.

Street Soccer Scotland delivers a range of football related personal development and training programmes to socially disadvantaged adults and young people (including homelessness) across Scotland including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen.

Sir Alex said: “I’ve had the privilege of experiencing football at its highest level but I know only too well what a positive impact it can have at every level. The benefits to the physical and mental health of those playing cannot be understated and the work Street Soccer Scotland does every day across the country plays a big part and must be encouraged and supported.

I am delighted to be supporting Street Soccer Scotland once again and I look forward to returning to Glasgow for what will be a fantastic and inspiring event.”

David Duke, chief executive of Street Soccer Scotland said: “I grew up in Govan and Sir Alex has been a constant inspiration. Having him as our guest of honour is the stuff dreams are made of and I know there will be a lot of people, from business and sport, who want to attend this special event to hear from one of the greatest football managers ever.

“Scotland has attracted some huge A-List names to events in recent years but for football fans Sir Alex has to be up there with the very biggest.

“Every day we use football as a tool to support thousands of socially disadvantaged adults and young people who are experiencing difficult times, offering hope, purpose and inspiration.

“The backing of Sir Alex inspires everyone involved with Street Soccer Scotland and this event will help us set a legacy for the programme for many years to come.”
