Charity marks 60 years of supporting healthier lives with name change
One of Scotland’s longest-established wellbeing charities has announced a major rebrand, as Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) becomes Murray’s Initiative.
The change was unveiled on Thursday, 6 November at the charity’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, held at Glasgow City Chambers.
This marks a new chapter for the organisation as it continues to provide confidential counselling and support services for individuals, families and communities across Glasgow and beyond.
The new name honours the charity’s founder, Sir Alistair Murray, and reflects its evolution into a modern, inclusive organisation working to help people build healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Chief executive Lesley Ross said: “This rebrand is both a celebration of our past and a statement of intent for our future. Murray’s Initiative reflects who we are today - a charity that supports people from all walks of life to live healthier, happier lives - while recognising the legacy of those who built the organisation we are so proud of.”
Ross said the rebrand also represents the charity’s proactive approach to ensuring long-term sustainability in an increasingly challenging environment for the third sector.
Murray’s Initiative will continue to offer a wide range of wellbeing and counselling services, community programmes and training from its established Glasgow locations.
Ross added: “Like many charities, we know that to continue meeting the needs of our communities, we must continually evolve. That means diversifying our income, developing new partnerships and creating opportunities for growth that will protect and strengthen our support and advocacy services for years to come.”
While the new name, website and branding will go live in early December, the charity reassured clients and partners that all services, staff and contact details remain unchanged.
“Everything people value about us stays the same,” said Ross. “Our team, our programmes and our commitment to accessible, high-quality support are as strong as ever. This is about building for the future and ensuring that we’re here for the next 60 years.”
