The union has said that around £30,000 is to be donated this year.
Organisations across Glasgow are set to receive more than £30,000 from the city’s credit union over the next year.
Over the past five years, credit union has donated £170,000 to community groups and charities, with £30,000 earmarked for donation this year
Glasgow Credit Union, one of the UK’s largest and most successful credit unions, has announced it has donated over £10,000 to 33 Glasgow charities and causes since October 2022.
The amount will benefit 4,000 children and young people across the city as well as organisations helping tackling issues such as food poverty, addiction, and homelessness.
Gillian Buckley, community engagement manager for Glasgow Credit Union, said: “Seeing the impact the Giving Glasgow donations make, no matter how big or small, always creates a positive impact and builds a stronger bond between Glasgow Credit Union, the charities, good causes and the communities we support.”
In addition to its own charitable work, the member-driven organisation has praised big-hearted members who, for the last two years, chose to donate over £5,800 of their dividends to charity.
In 2021, over £3,800 was generated for the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, helping them to provide emergency support to families.
This year, the Beatson Cancer Charity has benefited to the tune of £2,036, aiding its life-saving work.
Alex Hendy, funding and partnerships officer for Venture Trust, said: “Through donations such as this, Venture Trust can continue to enable people from all walks of life turn their lives around.
“For many Glaswegian participants, the journey they undertake with Inspiring Young Futures will set them on a completely different course to the one they were previously on, and they’ll still feel the benefits for years to come.”
Over the last four months, Glasgow Credit Union has supported a variety of organisations through its Giving Glasgow programme.
Some of the causes which have received help include Westercraigs Nursery, Drumchapel Asian Forum, MENSELF+, North East Recovery Community, and Venture Trust, which works to make a positive life possible for some of Scotland’s most vulnerable people.
