Last year’s march saw mass boycotting of the event by local activists and campaigns.
Campaigners have called for a LGBTW+ Pride organisation in Scotland’s largest city to take action to end “partnerships with companies complicit in Israel’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians”.
Members of the group No Pride in Genocide (NPiG) have written an open letter to Glasgow’s Pride Ltd, requesting an “open discussion” on “concerns about how last year’s pride was conducted”.
NPiG said they had received no response since March, and are now hoping to hold the group “accountable”.
In 2024, many local groups and individuals withdrew their participation from the official festivities organised by Glasgow’s Pride Ltd and instead “marched in outrage” with as part of an anti-genocide block through the city.
Campaigners are now calling for Glasgow’s Pride to meet a set of requests to improve, which include implementing an ethical sponsorship and partnership policy.
Glasgow’s Pride Ltd must also oppose Israel’s “pinkwashing”, stand in solidarity with marginalised communities, NPiG members said.
They also called for local performers and businesses to be prioritised for their involvement with Pride and receive fair treatment and remuneration alongside giving an active role to the wider community in the organising of the event to ensure accessibility, inclusivity, and accurate representation of our community.
The group wrote: “We must remember that first and foremost, Pride is a protest and that our ongoing struggle for liberation will never be complete without the liberation of our LGBTQ+ Palestinian peers. The recent ceasefire has been continually violated and the gruesome genocide has resumed with an estimate of 186,000 Palestinians being murdered. We simply cannot allow our Pride to be tainted by any company that is involved, invested in, or has supported this in any way.
“We stand proudly in opposition to the Pinkwashing of our Pride and encourage our vibrant local community to join us in solidarity by adding your name or the name of your organisation below to call on Glasgow's Pride Ltd to respond with a meaningful plan to meet our demands by 1st May 2025.”
Glasgow’s Pride Ltd was approached for comment.
