'Friends Of' groups in Lairg and Newtonmore have stepped up.

Two Highland stations are set to blossom this spring thanks to new station adopters.

Lairg and Newtonmore stations have been adopted as part of ScotRail’s ‘Adopt a Station’ programme, which encourages businesses, community groups, and individuals to take an active role in improving their local stations.

Friends of Lairg have stepped forward to take an active role in enhancing Lairg, a picturesque station located in the Scottish Highlands, bringing improvements that will benefit both rail passengers and the surrounding community.

Newtonmore, situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, will also undergo a transformation with contribution from the new station adopters, Friends of Newtonmore.

With ScotRail's support, the adoptions will focus on enhancing the stations’ environment, with initiatives such as planting floral displays, improving green spaces, and fostering a more welcoming atmosphere for all passengers.

The aim is to create more pleasant, vibrant, and accessible spaces for everyone who travels through these stations.

David Ross, ScotRail communications director, said: “We are thrilled to see Friends of Lairg and Friends of Newtonmore embrace ScotRail’s ‘Adopt a Station’ programme.

“Their commitment to the stations is a wonderful example of how communities can come together to improve local spaces and enhance the travel experience for all.”
