One of the world’s leading environmental charities has received £10 million worth of support received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Since 2010, WWF has been given the funding to help it launch key campaigns.
These include the include the Green Ambassadors scheme, an environmental education project, which has so far enabled over 90,000 young people to learn and take action for the planet, and Earth Hour, the global campaign which aims to raise awareness of climate change and the urgent need to combat it.
Internationally, African elephants, black rhinos, marine turtles and lions are all receiving extra protection through dedicated conservation programmes and in Kenya, cash has gone towards projects which provide communities with access to renewable energy.
Naomi Hicks, director of partnerships at WWF, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for all of the support they have given to WWF over the past eight years in the fight to protect our amazing planet. Working together, we’ve raised awareness of the critical challenges nature faces and inspired people to get involved in our mission to protect nature and those incredible species we share our planet with, for the sake of future generations. We look forward to continuing to work together in that vital fight for nature.”
Sanjay Singh, People’s Postcode Lottery’s senior programmes manager, said: “At People’s Postcode Lottery, we work to make the world a better place for both people and the planet and we see the work that WWF does as key to achieving this.
“We congratulate players on providing such incredible levels of support – they should be proud of the huge contribution they are making to help protect our planet for generations to come.”
