​Money will be used to buy mattresses, blankets, tarpaulins, sleeping mats and kitchen sets

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery (PPL) have awarded £100,000 in emergency funding to the British Red Cross to support thousands of families affected by the conflict in Syria.

The emergency funding will enable the aid agency to buy mattresses, blankets, tarpaulins, sleeping mats and kitchen sets which will be distributed to around 20,000 of the most vulnerable people in the war-torn country.

The funding will also be used to provide much needed winter relief items and food parcels to respond to the most exposed families.

Clara Govier, head of charities at PPL, said: “We have all been shocked and saddened by the recent images to come out of Aleppo so I am proud that players of People’s Postcode Lottery have taken up the challenge to provide this emergency funding to those so desperately in need.”

Dr Hosam Faysal, the British Red Cross Syria Crisis Programme manager, said: “We are so grateful for this generous funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Our teams are working around the clock to assist people during the most desperate of times.

“Awards like this mean we can continue our vital work to help the people of Syria, six years into this devastating conflict.”
