A community facility in the Gorbals was left covered in graffiti, with thousands of pounds worth of tools taken by thieves
A community Men’s Shed in Glasgow has been ransacked by sick, racist vandals.
Looters took around £5000 worth of tools from the Gorbals Men’s Shed, and daubed far-right graffiti on the walls of the building.
Vandalism included calling for the release of English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson and police killer Dale Cregan, alongside swastikas and other offensive slogans.
The community project was recently founded in the area in an attempt to engage isolated local men.
It is being extended across Scotland having proved successful in creating a space for people to interact whilst undertaking projects that can boost their mental health.
A post on the group’s Facebook page said that the break-in had been an unfortunate incident, but members are determined to continue their work in the community and had already began repairing the damage.
Items taken included a TIG welder, a Dewalt saw, and AEG saw, a Hitachi cordless drill and several other tools.
Police have been contacted and are said to be following a positive line of enquiry.
Anyone with any information or who might have witnessed anything suspicious near the shed between Thursday night and Sunday (12 – 15 June) should contact officers on 101.
