It failed to raise enough cash for its cause

Mo Farah is to close his charity after it was revealed it spent more on wages and administration than it did on its cause.

The Mo Farah Foundation was launched by the Olympic gold medallist in 2011 to help tackle poverty abroad.

It was run by his his ster-in-law Diana Nell but trustees said they were unable to run the charity the way it was intended.

It is reported that the foundation had a total income of £251,587 of which £137,470 was spent on staff wages while a further £40,763 was used to pay for rent and admin bills.

Some £400,000 of funds in the bank will be transferred to another charity,

A spokesman for the Charity Commission said: “There is no investigation and the charity hasn't done anything improper.”
