Tracy Brabin has auctioned off a dress which slipped off her shoulder while in the House of Commons
A dress which resulted in an MP receiving criticism from “keyboard warriors” has raised a substantial sum for charity.
Labour MP Tracy Brabin faced a barrage of tweets after her dress slipped down her shoulder as she leaned on the despatch box in the House of Commons due to a broken ankle.
Brabin had been raising a point of order in the House of Commons about journalists being asked to leave a Downing Street press briefing on the next stage of Brexit talks, when her shoulder was exposed.
Vitrolic comments made on Twitter about the dress included her being labelled “a slag”, “hungover” and “about to breastfeed”.
The MP called out the comments, saying women are regularly demeaned for what they wear, and placed the now infamous dress on eBay.
Its sale has raised a staggering £20,000 for Girlguiding. The size 12 pencil dress attracted 180 bids with two potential buyers battling it out until the last minute.
Brabin said said the money would be going to Girlguiding, a charity for girls and young women in the UK, "in the hope that they grow up to be leaders".
