A new support service has been launched to help disabled people get the benefits they are entitled to.

The Scottish Government has launched an advocacy service to support disabled people to access Social Security Scotland benefits.

The independent advocacy service will enable clients to have their voice heard, express their views and feel understood.

It is available to anyone who, because of their disability, needs support applying for benefits – and will ensure clients are fully involved in the application process.

A client can request an advocate at any time – from the initial application stage to re-determination and appeal.

Clients who already have someone acting on their behalf won’t be eligible for the service.

People can access this support by calling 0800 182 2222 and asking to be referred to the Independent Advocacy Service.

Once a client gets in touch, they can expect to be contacted by the advocacy service within five working days.

Due to social distancing measures, the support is currently only available via telephone or video call.

More information is available online.
