Chief executive takes on role in February
Independent living specialist Blackwood Housing and Care has announced a new leadership structure. as Jason MacGilp is set to become chief executive.
It comes as Simon Fitzpatrick departs after a two-year tenure to head up West of Scotland Housing Association.
Fitzpatrick previously served as Blackwood's development and commercial director, where he led the creation of the award-winning Blackwood house model, now regarded as the gold standard for accessible housing in Scotland.
Julie McDowell, chair of Blackwood Housing and Care, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jason MacGilp as our new Chief Executive. Jason brings a wealth of experience and expertise in housing leadership, and his appointment ensures continuity and a clear strategic direction for Blackwood as we move forward.
“Simon has guided Blackwood through a challenging time for the sector. His focus and commitment to our customers, staff, and vision have been unwavering and we wish him every success for the future.”
Reflecting on his time as CEO, Fitzpatrick, said: “It has been a privilege to lead Blackwood Housing and Care and to work alongside a dedicated team.
“Together, we have navigated a challenging housing landscape and reaffirmed Blackwood’s mission to deliver independent living solutions. I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength under Jason’s leadership.”
MacGilp, formerly CEO of Cairn Housing Group, joins Blackwood with over a decade of experience leading housing organisations through periods of strategic transformation.
He will officially assume his role as in February 2025 with a focus on driving Blackwood’s vision of creating accessible, sustainable homes and enhancing services for residents.
