The collaboration is between the Scottish Refugee Council and Social Enterprise Academy.
Up to sixteen people with lived experience of the asylum system in Scotland will get the opportunity to build on their leadership skills through a successful programme this year.
Following the success of 2021/2022’s New Scots Leadership Programme, Scottish Refugee Council and Social Enterprise Academy are developing a second programme for a new cohort of new Scots.
Over the course of six months, starting in October 2022, successful applicants will develop their existing leadership skills, enhance their understanding of community development, build their network and learn from each other’s personal experience and practice.
Sabir Zazai, CEO at Scottish Refugee Council, said: “We are delighted to offer this leadership programme for a second year, following the huge success of last year’s programme. When we invest in the future of people seeking safety in this country, leaders emerge who can change the lives of others around them and inspire change.
“At this time of great crisis, it is more important than ever to be providing forward-thinking opportunities for people to connect, learn and grow together, and to build the welcoming communities that we want to see.”
This impactful programme is delivered by the Social Enterprise Academy, which provides transformational learning and development programmes for people and organisations working for social change.
Following last year’s programme 100% of participants reported feeling better able to address the challenges and opportunities that they face, and feeling more confident assuming a key leadership role in their community.
A further 93% of participants felt better able to support the development of their community.

Applications are welcomed from people in the asylum system and people with refugee status in Scotland. Applications will close on 19th September 2022.
