Social enterprise offers support for women during lockdown
Period poverty charity Hey Girls is supporting women’s groups by launching new pants.
The venture has already donated period products to women’s crisis shelters in the UK, but felt that something extra should be done during this unprecedented crisis.
Now for every pair of the organisation’s Red Bikini Period Pants sold, £5 from every purchase will be donated to women’s crisis shelters.
The Scottish social enterprise provides sanitary products for girls and young women from low-income families in the UK.
Celia Hodson, its founder, said: “Domestic violence has no place in our society in 2020. Hey Girls is showing our solidarity with and for people who find themselves in these horrific situations by raising awareness of the government’s #YouAreNotAlone campaign within our community.
"To take it a step further, we know that women’s shelters need monetary donations now more than ever, so we will be donating £5 from orders of our new period pants to do exactly that.”
Hey Girls already carries the National Domestic Violence Freephone Helpline on the inside of their product packaging and supports women’s crisis shelters with donations of period products.
UK minister for safeguarding and vulnerabilities, Victoria Atkins said: “Coronavirus has had an effect on everyone, but I know that it has been especially frightening for victims of domestic abuse who have found themselves trapped in their homes with their perpetrators.
“I’d like to thank Hey Girls for supporting the government’s #YouAreNotAlone campaign and raising awareness of this terrible crime. It is more important than ever to remind victims that help is available.”
The Hey Girls Classic Red Shorties & Bikini Period Pants are available to buy from heygirls.co.uk starting at £14.95 per pair.
The period pants are a reusable and sustainable option for period care and can be used month after month.
