Perth and Kinross charities receive grants worth £1.9 million

The Gannochy Trust provided support to four organisations

Charities in Scotland have been given a new year boost with awards of nearly £2 million.

The Gannochy Trust has recently awarded grants totalling £1.9m over three years to its key strategic partners in Perth and Kinross.

The four organisations receiving this funding from March this year are Live Active Leisure, Perth Theatre and Concert Hall, Perth and Kinross Countryside Trust, and Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust.

All four charities have a long-standing relationship with the Trust, and help to deliver the Trust’s key aims for its funding across the area.

The activities being supported are heavily influenced by the wishes of the Trust’s founder A K Bell, and include an outdoor activity programme for primary school children, football development programmes for children and young people, community based engagement in the creative arts, environmental education outreach, and improvements to the area’s natural and historic environment.

Phil Coleman, service manager for physical activity and sport at Live Active Leisure, said: “Investment from The Gannochy Trust has supported our commitment to using sport and physical activity as the vehicle for positive change within our communities for more than 30 years.

“An agreed focus area of this latest investment is to deliver projects that develop and inspire children and young people from across Perth and Kinross. Whether this is through grassroots sport participation programmes, projects that focus on breaking down barriers, schemes that support our young talented athletes, or initiatives that provide leadership and employability skills for our local young people - the impact that our delivery teams see on a daily basis cannot be overstated.

“We know the difference that sport can make on those who take part, and this is of particular relevance to children and young people. With this continued support from the Gannochy Trust, we look forward to creating even greater impact by tackling local inequalities and reaching those who find it most difficult to engage.”

The funding provided to these organisations was part of a larger grant award package for the Perth and Kinross area totalling £2.9m which was agreed by the Trust in December.

Stephen Hay, Charman of The Gannochy Trust said: “Our founder, A K Bell, was clear in his desire to see the Trust’s funds invested in the local area, particularly to support sport and young people.

“We are determined to continue his vision into the 21st century to assist Perth and Kinross to recover and thrive in the wake of covid and the cost of living crisis.

“This significant investment will build on the longstanding relationship the Trust has developed with our partners, and help to enhance the lives of people across the area.”
