Young people in Dundee to be given more opportunities
An extra 75 unemployed young people in Dundee will be invited to take part in an intensive volunteering and personal development programme thanks to the launch of a new third sector and local authority partnership.
Project Scotland has teamed up with Dundee City Council to help those ages 16-30 get the experience they need to find a job.
The partnership will see young people matched to a volunteering role with a local charity or not-for-profit, they’ll have access to a mentor and be given one-to-one guidance from an employability manager who will advise them on CV writing, interviews skills and job hunting.
Paul Reddish, chief executive of Project Scotland, said: “We are really excited to announce the new partnership between ourselves and Dundee City Council.
“It will allow us to give a further 75 young people in Dundee a voluntary role that will unlock their aspirations, talent, skills and ultimately help them on their way to securing employment.
“Charities and not-for-profits are also set to benefit as we strengthen their services with talented volunteers.”
The ProjectScotland programme will sit within the Dundee Employability Pipeline, which helps jobless people overcome a range of challenges to help them get into work.
Councillor Bill Campbell, depute convenor of city development at Dundee City Council, said: “Project Scotland brings an exciting new dimension to the Dundee Employability Pipeline by offering young people fantastic volunteering opportunities lasting several months with support along the way to overcome any obstacles.
“The Employability Pipeline supports the people of Dundee with issues such as debt, childcare problems, job applications, interview skills, and finding the right job opportunity. We’re delighted to welcome Project Scotland as a new partner.”
