The Serenity Cafe has been saved after charity Comas secured a new base in Edinburgh

A café which support those in recovery has secured a new home.

A campaign was launched to save the Serenity Cafe, which offers a space for those in recovery to relax and socialise, earlier this spring after charity Comas learned that it would have to vacate its premises near Holyrood.

Since then, supporters of the addiction service have rallied round the organisation as it looked to move premises for the first time in seven years.

However the search is over after Comas confirmed it had secured a new home just a short distance from its existing base.

“Subject to signing of contract, we have been successful in our bid for the property at 188 – 192 The Pleasance,” said the charity’s chief executive Fiona Morrison.

“This was following a full marketing exercise and closing date. We were considered the best commercial proposal and our offer has been accepted by Edinburgh City Council.

“Myself, my staff team, our volunteers and community members are absolutely delighted at this decision and we look forward to a new start in our new premises!”

Comas staff and volunteers will now start work on preparing its new recovery café and offices, with the lease for its existing home ceasing at the end of next month.
