Refugee crisis: find your nearest collection

This news post is over 9 years old

Google map lets people search for their nearest drop-off point to send supplies to Calais

Those looking to support people in refugee camps by donating clothing, toiletries or camping equipment can now use a map on Google to easily find their nearest collection point.

The map (below) shows grassroots donation points across the world.

All you have to do is zoom in to your part of the country to find your nearest collection point.

For most locations there is a link to take you to your local collection’s website or Facebook page

The map is by no means exhaustive but is a good place to start for those unsure of where they can donate.

Another great place to go to is the Calaid Facebook page or its website. Calaid is trying to unite individual groups by organising fortnightly collections of goods to take to Calais with collection points across the country.

It is also accepting financial donations via its crowdfunding page - originally set up to raise £1,000 it has now raised over £100,000.

Some of the donations that are badly required include shoes and trainers from size 7-11, tents, small and medium size jackets, travel bags, sleeping bags and toiletries. A full list of is on the Calaid website.

Hi Rosie, unfortunately our office isn't one of the collection points. If you find the nearest collection point to you by using the map above and contact them directly they should be able to help you though.

Hi Tom,If you zoom in on the map you can see the different collection points in your area - some may have closed now as the article is from September 2015 but most still have links to organisations that may be of help to you.Paul

Hi. Is there anywhere in Manchester or Stockport collecting clothing and soap, for example, to take to Calais/Dunkirk? Googling gives historical info, charities don't seem to know. 26/1/16

We are a local charity based in Blandford Forum, Dorset (DT11 8SL). We are on Care4Calais/Help refugees registers and seem to have disappeared from your global map recently. We were there last month and as far as we knew then the only continuously active collection and distribution centre in Dorset! here are our details: Blandford CARES:" Collecting Aid for Refugees - Europe and Sudan. We have been in existence since August 2015 and have regularly delivered to L'Auberge des Migrants and supported the Refugee Community Kitchens. We also liaise with Taunton RAFT to send aid to other European camps and Africa. We are based at Blandford United Reformed Church where we have our sorting rooms. For more information either mail us (hearn@forumsprings.plus.com) or call 07768403512. You can also find us on Face Book. Please can you restore us to your map

Our office has been collectively discussing how we might help. If we were to get together things that are on your request list, can we send by carrier to you rather than drop in? Look forward to hearing from you before I get the ball rolling here!
