Groups braved torrential rain to raise money for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

Runners have taken on an Oor Wullie-themed challenge to raise money for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

Three groups braved last weekend’s torrential rain to undertake circuits of the capital, taking in 35 of the sculptures along their route.

In total, the runners clocked up an impressive 180 miles between them, raising £150 for the charity.

The route saw them take in some of Edinburgh’s most scenic spots along the way, including Calton Hill, the Scottish Parliament and the Royal Mile.

Ali Wyllie, founder of event organiser Run the Sights, said: “The Oor Wullies have become hugely popular attractions across the city this summer so we wanted to create a way for people to see as many as possible, while also having fun and getting fit at the same time.

“It was absolutely pouring throughout the first tour but everyone was excited to see all the different statues and it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. The route also involved running up Calton Hill to spot the two Wullies there, which was quite challenging but entirely worth it for the stunning views.

“We think the trail is absolutely fantastic and we’re very pleased to have had the opportunity to run to some of our favourite places while supporting ECHC.”

ECHC supports and complements the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC) to help children and young people be a child first and a patient second.

Roslyn Neely, ECHC chief executive, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Run the Sights for this incredible effort as Edinburgh is not an easy city to walk around, never mind run.

“We continue to be amazed by the number of people who are getting involved with Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail and we are so very grateful to everyone for their support. All the funds raised go to Scotland’s children’s hospital charities and enable us to continue with the vital, life-changing work that we do.”
