Familiar figure takes over the reigns

A successor has been appointed to replace one of the sector’s longest serving chief executives ahead of her retirement.

Ian Bruce will take over from Helen Macneil who leaves Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS) at the end of June after 28 years, 16 of those as its head.

Bruce is currently the chief executive of CVS Inverclyde where he has led the organisation since 2010. Having previously worked for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and other charities he has an extensive history in the voluntary sector.

Ian said: "I will be very sad to leave CVS Inverclyde which is a fantastic organisation doing really exciting work in a vibrant and friendly part of Scotland. But after almost 10 years it feels time for someone new to take over and for me to take on a new challenge.

“GCVS is a key development agency, which has a really vital leadership role to play in reducing inequalities and improving lives in the city I live in and love.

“The work they do supporting and strengthening communities is crucial and it will be an honour to join the trustees, staff and volunteers to take the charity forward.
