“Spiralling costs” could force Scottish charity to close in three months

SiMBA, Simpson's Memory Box Appeal, has launched a desperate appeal for financial support.

A Scottish charity which supports families who have suffered the loss of a baby has warned it could close in just three months as it launches a fundraising appeal.

Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal (SiMBA) was formed in 2005 but has now warned that soaring costs and rising demand mean they are “running desperately low on funds”.

The Midlothian-based charity, which is known for donating memory boxes to help families gather precious items from the time they get to spend with their baby, as well as providing other services, is concerned it could be closed by April.

A number of fundraising events looking to save the charity are now being shared on SiMBA’s website.

The charity is appealing to businesses and individuals to come forward and help raise as much money as possible to keep the charity afloat.

Sara Fitzsimmons, SiMBA CEO, said: “Our wonderful charity SiMBA, so appreciated and loved by thousands of families that we have supported over the years is now in trouble. If we don’t secure funds we will be forced to close our doors in as little as three months. In order to save SiMBA we need your help.

“Since 2005 Simba has been committed to supporting bereaved families who’ve lost a baby at any stage of pregnancy around the time of birth. By providing our memory boxes, family rooms, trees of tranquillity, support, information, raising awareness, and events honouring the memory of a baby who has died.

“Since 3005 our organisation has donated over 50,000 memory boxes. In the last year alone we have gifted over 10,000 boxes. Our costs have increased faster than ever before, while at the same time we have seen a growth in requests for our precious memory boxes.

"With a significant  shortfall in fundraising and soaring costs, means we are running desperately low on funds. We are all working so hard to raise funds for SiMBA and we need your help.

“Together we can make a real difference so we can continue to be there to support bereaved families.”
