Cunninghame Housing Association chief executive Frank Sweeney has been awarded third sector director of the year

Cunninghame Housing Association chief exeuctive Frank Sweeney has been awarded Third Sector Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors Scotland Awards.

Sweeney has worked at the west of Scotland housing association for 25 years. He joined the then Three Towns Housing Association as director in January 1990 when the association had 65 houses.

Today, Cunninghame Housing Association group of companies comprises 2,300 properties and runs two subsidiary companies, Cunninghame Furniture Recycling Company and Citrus Energy Ltd. The organisation also emplooys 98 staff.

The award, which is supported by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Orgnaisations, see third sector leaders honoured alongside some of Scotland's biggest business leaders.

Lorna Davidson, chief executive of the New Lanark Trust and Calum Macaulay of Albyn Housing Society & Albyn Enterprises were finalists alongside Sweeney.

David Watt, executive director of the Institute of Directors in Scotland, said “Whether leading success in turnover, delivering shareholder value, innovating and creating world class products, creating challenges and opportunities for individuals, excelling in customer service or striving to make working environments better, everything that these directors and their peers do has an impact on our everyday life.

"As such they set a fine example for those that aspire to follow in their footsteps – the future generation of Scottish directors.”
