The Royal Lyceum have unveiled the additions to its team.

The Royal Edinburgh Lyceum has announced two new members of senior management will join through Summer 2023 to steer the team into the theatre’s biggest programme in years.

A new director of producing and director of audience and commercial will strategise on ensuring the most exciting new Scottish creatives and theatre makers are supported to make work for Scottish audiences.

The theatre hopes that its productions are internationally scalable from the main theatre and studio alongside work in co-production with leading houses at home and abroad.

The Lyceum wants to ensure that audiences are welcomed, excited and invigorated by the art they find within our walls.

Anna Astell joins the team in a new role, director of audience and commercial, Anna has most recently worked for BT Consumer and was previously at the BBC.

She is a specialist in strategy, marketing and insights and has a wide range of experience working across commercial and strategy roles at large media organisations.

She said: “It is with great excitement that I am joining The Lyceums’ leadership team as it was on a school trip to The Lyceum where my passion for theatre began.

“As Scotland’s main producing theatre, The Lyceum sits at the heart of cultural Scotland, and I look forward to supporting their vision to reach the widest possible audience while building on relationships with our loyal patrons.”

Callum Smith joins the theatre as its new director of producing – joining the team in September.

Callum has been working as a producer in Scotland for the last 11 years, founding Showroom, and for the last five years has worked in a variety of producing roles at the National Theatre of Scotland where he is currently senior producer.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining The Lyceum, and to have the chance to work with David, Mike and the rest of the team to help deliver, develop and grow the work of this landmark Scottish theatre institution.

“David’s vision of the Lyceum as a civic theatre - a venue and an organisation at the heart of the life of a city - is one that has always inspired me, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Mike Griffiths, The Lyceum executive director added: "We are both (David Greig and I) delighted that Anna and Callum will be joining our senior team at this exciting time for the company. They both bring a wealth of knowledge and experience which will support our ambitious plans as an entire team.

“We are both looking forward to the exciting new season of work for 23 – 24  and then with our new directors – to build on our bold plans for the future of the theatre.”
