Professional and cultural links strengthened during meeting
A legal charity hosted the ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UK, during an official visit to Scotland.
The Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow hosted Ulan Djusupov, bringing together leading figures from Scotland’s legal and international affairs community to strengthen ties between Scotland and the Kyrgyz Republic.
Dean of the faculty, John Bett and Vice Dean Craig Donnelly, as well as John McKenzie (chief executive) and Ahsan Mustafa (council member and trustee) welcomed Ambassador Djusupov.
The Scottish Council on Global Affairs was represented by John Edward (head of operations).
The discussions centred on comparative legal systems and promoting engagement between Scottish and Kyrgyz lawyers. In addition, opportunities were explored for the faculty to facilitate training for embassy staff, further deepening professional and cultural ties.
Bett said: “It was a privilege to welcome His Excellency to the Faculty. Glasgow’s legal profession has a proud tradition of openness and collegiality, and this meeting underscores our role in engaging with the wider global community.”
Mustafa added: “This meeting reflects the importance of Scotland’s legal institutions engaging internationally. By sharing expertise and learning from different legal traditions, we not only build stronger professional links but also contribute to a more collaborative and ethical global legal culture.”
