Four influential Scottish women are set to be recognised at the annual ceremony, organised by Action for Children

Four influential women have been recognised by a Scottish charity.

Jacqui Ferguson, Professor Alice Brown CBE, Dr Rebecca Wade and Janice Kirkpatrick have been announced as being on the shortlist for Action for Children’s 20th annual Woman of Influence awards.

The ceremony recognises remarkable women in Scotland who have had an outstanding impact on society and are role models to the disadvantaged children, young people, and families the charity supports.

This year marks 20 years of Woman of Influence, during which time inspirational women such as Judy Murray OBE, Sarah Brown, Katherine Grainger DBE, Lorraine Kelly and others have been recognised while the event as raised more than £1.4m to support Action for Children’s work across Scotland.

On Sunday 29 March, the overall winner will be announced at a special luncheon, sponsored by TAM Asset Management Ltd, at SWG3 in Glasgow hosted by the comic Fred MacAulay and the broadcaster, and former Woman of Influence winner, Kirsty Wark.

The nominees and their categories are:

• Business: Jacqui Ferguson, non-executive director for Wood Group, CRODA, Tesco Bank and Engineering UK.

• Public Service: Professor Alice Brown CBE, Emeritus professor of politics, and formerly vice principal, at the University of Edinburgh and chair of the Sottish Funding Council.

• Innovation & Technology: Dr Rebecca Wade, senior lecturer in environmental science, School of Applied Science, Abertay University, Dundee.

• Arts & Sports: Janice Kirkpatrick, creative director, Graven.

Paul Carberry, director of Action for Children in Scotland, said: “Over the last two decades, Action for Children’s ‘Woman of Influence’ awards has recognised women who have made a real impact in Scotland and beyond. We believe that each of the nominees is an inspiration to the next generation of women in Scotland and are outstanding role models for the young women our projects work with.

“For 20 years this event has been one of the most popular on our fundraising calendar while also raising £1.4m to support our work. This has made a life-changing difference to the lives of the many disadvantaged children, families and young people who we support across the country.
