Dalton Harris won the popular talent show this weekend - and his new song is set to help two charities

This year’s potential Christmas Number One is set to hand a boost to two charities.

Dalton Harris was named the winner of the X Factor this weekend, and is favourite to top the charts at Christmas with his rendition of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's hit track The Power Of Love.

And VAT collected on sales of the X Factor winner’s charity song will be donated to children’s charities, Together for Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase.

Both charities, which provide support to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, will benefit from the donation as the government gives back the tax on the X Factor charity song for the eighth year running.

Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said: “Sales from this year’s X Factor charity single will help children with life-limiting diseases and their families. We will donate the VAT paid on the sales, ensuring more people can benefit from this crucial funding.

“The single goes a huge way in raising awareness of valuable causes and the charities behind them and that’s why the government has supported the X Factor Christmas single with donations worth more than £300,000 over the last eight years.”
