Introducing Legacy and In-Memory Fundraising
GCVS
This event is in the past
This session will provide an overview of the key aspects to consider when introducing gifts in Wills and in-memory fundraising into your plan. Legacies are the largest single source of voluntary income for many charities, however good practice requires a particularly sensitive and caring approach with adherence to ethical and legal good practice. In-memory fundraising is closely related, but is often under-developed within fundraising plans. The session will provide a general foundation to help you to begin.
Outcomes
By the end of this session you should be able to,
-understand how to approach legacy and in-memory fundraising
-consider some of the key legal and ethical issues involved
-introduce these methods into your fundraising plan and organisation
-explore ways to collaborate with external partners
-know where to find further help
This session will be led by June Burgess, Funding Advice Officer at Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector. June has many years' experience as a skilled fundraiser within several well-known Scottish charities and has a particular interest in all aspects of in-memory campaigns and legacy fundraising. June is a member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising and holds the Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (CiCLA) from the Institute of Legacy Management. Since joining GCVS in 2021, June has supported hundreds groups in Glasgow with their fundraising plans.
