Find out how to apply for S33 VAT refund scheme at our online briefing session!
VAT is an irrecoverable cost for most museums and galleries. However, there are ways in which this cost can be reduced or removed.
If your museum/gallery offers free-of-charge admission and is open to the public for at least 30 hours per week, it could apply for ‘special’ Section 33A VAT status. This status would allow you to claim back VAT that’s normally blocked from recovery.
You do not have to be VAT registered to obtain this status. However, you do need to be accredited and included on a ‘register’ of eligible bodies.
The current opportunity to apply and obtain ‘special’ VAT status closes on 3 January 2023.
Taking festive holidays into account it is recommended that all application forms are completed and submitted as soon as possible before the holidays.
Our tax partner and regular events & training contributor Azets will deliver a quick 40-minute briefing session to tell you everything you need to know about the scheme and how to make the claim.
