Saving the World with the Circular Economy
The Melting Pot
This event is in the past
The first in our debut series of Social Impact Speaker events sponsored by Charisma Charity Recruitment, ‘Saving the World with the Circular Economy’ will explore the contributions of members of our social innovation ecosystem working towards a brighter future with a circular economy mindset embedded within it.
We will hear first from Barry O’Kane of Happy Porch, a company designing software which accelerates the growth of the circular economy. Barry will share his definition of the circular economy and dispel some myths about the concept.
Jess Husbands, founder of the Edinburgh Board Game Library and volunteer at the Edinburgh Tool Library will share her experiences of starting a circular economy initiative and discuss the opportunities for anyone with a budding idea for environmental change in Scotland.
What is Happy Porch and what does the circular economy mean to them?
HappyPorch provides bespoke web and mobile application development for organisations making the world better. We are especially focused on digital tools enabling successful circular economy projects.
If we are to successfully tackle major issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss and global social inequality, the linear economy has to change. We must transform all elements of the current take-make-waste system:
- how we manage resources
- how we design, make and use everything
- and what we do with the materials afterwards
This mindset opens exciting opportunities across all sectors. With genuine circularity in our thinking we can achieve a thriving, positive and balanced society. That is what circular economies mean to us.
