Skillshare: Stories and eco-anxiety in children
Scottish Communities Climate Action Network (SCCAN)
In this skillshare, Scottish Communities Climate Action Network Story Weaver, Joana Avi-Lorie, will talk through her research into how a fiction-based activity might impact the narratives children have about the climate crisis and which are linked to their eco-anxiety.
This project emerges from a place of curiosity and understanding the world through story, speculation and playing with ideas.
Showing how it feels for children to have their anguishes about the climate crisis acknowledged in a context where they still can play and have fun with ideas through story might open up ways for researchers, and also for therapists, counsellors, educators, parents and guardians to “stay curious” about it. Through curiosity, like the characters in stories, we find new things about the world and ourselves in it.
Whether you have one of these roles in the lives of eco-anxious children, are a fellow storyteller or researcher interested in the impact of fictional stories on mental health, an eco-anxious parent/grandparent/guardian or are just curious about the topic, join us for a lunchtime session and bring your stories too.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
