Funding boost for Glasgow project

A charity which helps former addicts in Glasgow has received a funding boost.

The Second Chance Project has won £5,000 to fund a new health and fitness programme.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation.

The Second Chance Project is an abstinence based rehabilitation day unit for alcoholics and drug addicts who are now free of all mood and mind-altering substances.

The organisation detoxifies users and educates them on living a substance free life.

It also provides group sessions, peer support and tutoring in addition to facilitating access to local services.

The grant will be used to fund a health and fitness programme, which will help improve the confidence and self-esteem of service users.

The programme will include football, yoga sessions, away days to places such as Loch Lomond as well as family days to involve clients’ families in their journey to recovery.

Alex Rae, former Rangers player and chairman of Second Chance said: “This is something we have been looking to provide for some time and thanks to the generosity of Santander we can give our service users an even better chance of moving on from addiction.”
