Staff at Barnardo's have been thinking creatively in a bid to get more foster carers in Glasgow to come forward

Staff at a charity have been thinking outside the box to help boost services.

When Barnardo’s Scotland’s retail and fostering teams got together to see how they could best support each other, one idea came to the fore - the new white van that had been delivered recently to cover the shops in Glasgow, could be used as a billboard to raise awareness of the need for foster carers.

Marianna Beattie, area business manager who manages the charity’s shops in Glasgow, was delighted to be able to help her fostering colleagues.

She said: “Fostering only has a small advertising budget and as this van will be on the road for three years it will be great value for money, especially as it covers all of Glasgow and has the ability to be seen by thousands of people every day.”

Barnardo’s Scotland teams all worked together to make the van into a billboard for fostering. The Glasgow fostering team worked with the charity’s creative team to design the advertising wrap for the van and the transport team arranged for the wrap to be applied to the van before it was delivered to Marianna Beattie’s area last month.

Eleanor Hendry, manager at Barnardo’s Scotland Fostering Glasgow, said: “This is an exciting day for the Barnardo’s fostering service in Glasgow, hopefully people will contact us after seeing this van and go on to join us as foster carers to look after local children who aren’t able to live with their birth families.

“With the high levels of support and training that Barnardo’s Scotland offers, being a foster carer with us is a positive choice for people who care about children.”

Barnardo’s Scotland Fostering in Glasgow is looking for new foster carers to provide loving and stable care to children and young people.
