Hurricane Irma has caused devastation across the Caribbean, leaving thousands homeless and several islands in a state of chaos.
A massive aid effort is required in the region to help rebuild communities and prevent the spread of disease in the region.
Several charities have now launched appeals to help the victims of the natural disaster, with the UK Government pledging to donate £32 million and match every pound that is given to the British Red Cross (up to £3 million).
Here, we feature some of the campaigns that are being held.
Local Red Cross volunteers are already on the ground giving first aid, shelter and water to those affected. A donation of £50 could buy 12 blankets for survivors and £100 will buy kitchen kits for five families.
Oxfam's Hurricane Irma Appeal is aimed at helping the charity to act fast to save lives. £35 will buy life-saving hygiene kits and a donation of £100 will help to build toilet & washing facilities.
Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF)
SCIAF is responding to the needs of people worst hit by the latest catastrophic Category Five hurricane and said it urgently need donations from Scotland to make sure they have access clean water, food and shelter in the critical hours after the storm.
Unicef teams have been delivering emergency supplies including water purification tablets, hygiene kits, life-saving food, medicine and tents for families whose homes have been destroyed. They have said that donations will be used to help save children’s lives.
