Gareth Jones has been appointed as a reporter for Third Force News (TFN) and communications officer for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. Gareth will work across the TFN and communications teams in the new role, writing stories and publicising events and studies from the Mansfield Traquair Centre in Edinburgh. The 31-year-old was previously a senior reporter at the Stirling Observer, having worked as a political reporter for Cumbrian daily the North West Evening Mail. Throughout his time in journalism, Gareth worked closely with third sector groups and was a trustee for anti-sectarian charity Nil by Mouth.

The Royal Air Forces (RAF) Association today announces the appointment of Air Marshal Sir Baz North as its new president, replacing Air Marshal Sir Dusty Miller. In his new role, Sir Baz will join the charity’s board of trustees and play a key role in ensuring the association continues to provide world-class support to the RAF family. He joins the RAF Association team following a distinguished career of 35 years with the Royal Air Force. Sir Baz has been a member of the RAF Association since 2003.

HIV Scotland has appointed Nathan Sparling as its new head of policy and campaigning. Nathan joins the organisation from Westminster, where he was a senior parliamentary advisor covering many social policy issues including pensions and the devolution of social security powers to the Scottish Parliament. He advised on the Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Ratification of Convention) Act which has led to the UK government taking steps to ratify the Istanbul Convention. Nathan will lead HIV Scotland’s policy and campaigning team, ensuring their work is informed by people living with and at risk of HIV, is strategic and evidence based. Nathan will also coordinate the work of the national HIV testing short life working group.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland (the Foundation) has announced that Trevor Civval has been appointed as its new chair. Trevor brings a wealth of experience in strategy, finance and governance, both within the commercial and voluntary sectors. He succeeds Tim Hall who has been chair since 2014 and a member of the Board since 2011. Trevor joined as a trustee in 2013.

Victim Support Scotland has announced the appointment of Kate Wallace as the charity’s new chief executive. She has 13 years’ experience of high profile leadership roles in the public and voluntary sectors in both executive and non-executive role and currently leads Visualise Scotland, a service delivery charity that provides services to people living with disabilities and complex needs from across Scotland. Prior to that, Kate was the UK programme director for Barnardo’s based between London and Glasgow.
