Business in the Community Scotland (BITC) has appointed Mike Still as the new chair for its advisory board. The managing director of Marsh UK succeeds Jayne-Anne Gadhia, chief executive of Virgin Money, who has stepped down after three years in the role. Mike will also join the main board of BITC. He is chair of BITC’s UK wide business emergency resilience group, supporting businesses and communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergency events such as flooding or cyber security breaches.

Conservation and education charity the Scottish Seabird Centre has appointed Dr Stephen Breslin as a new trustee. Stephen is chief executive officer of the Glasgow Science Centre will play an important role in helping the Seabird Centre collaborate with the scientific community in the creation of the new National Marine Centre. He is the former chief executive of Futurelab Education, a respected think-tanks and research labs in the world. Starting his career as an engineering consultant, Stephen has also worked for the Royal Navy at Faslane and as chief executive of the Kelvin Institute Ltd.

Shelter Scotland has appointed the former auditor general for Scotland, Robert Black CBE, as an honorary vice-president. The housing and homelessness charity has bestowed the honour in recognition of Robert Black’s role as chair of the commission on housing and wellbeing, which published its final report in 2015, and for his ongoing efforts in promoting the commission’s work. Black is only the second honorary vice president of Shelter Scotland to have been appointed in the charity’s near 50 years of activity in Scotland, joining the Reverend Richard Holloway who helped found the Shelter Scotland campaign in 1968. The ​title is an honorary lifetime appointment. Black was Scotland’s first Auditor General, holding the post from 2000 until his retirement in 2012.
