Far-right activist Stephen Yaxley-Lennon has been told to stay away from this weekend's Hearts versus Rangers match

A campaign group has been launched to keep Tommy Robinson away from Scottish football.

The far-right activist, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is reportedly planning to attend the Hearts versus Rangers game in Edinburgh this Sunday (2 December).

In response, anti-racist campaigners, fans groups and politicians have created a campaign to make it clear to the former English Defence League (EDL) leader that he is not welcome.

The 36-year-old angered Hearts fans when he mocked up a picture of himself in the club’s shirt claiming he was “coming soon” to Tynecastle.

Groups who have joined the effort to keep Yaxley-Lennon away include Stand Up to Racism Scotland, Hearts Lads and Lassies against Fascism, Show Racism the Red Card Scotland, The Muslim Council of Scotland, and Edinburgh and Lothian Regional Equality Council.

Luke Henderson, from Unite Against Fascism Edinburgh, said the number of people who would welcome the activist to Scottish football represented a “miniscule number of racists”.

He said: “He’s a dangerous, far-right campaigner with a lengthy criminal record. He seeks to inflame Islamophobia and wider racism. There is no place for him in Scotland, or Scottish football.”
