Getting on Board has launched a new toolkit to mark Trustees Week 2020

A new guide to give people more information on becoming a trustee has been launched.

Getting on Board has announced the publication of How to Become a Charity Trustee: the new, free guide to volunteering as a charity trustee.

The guide is a practical toolkit for charity trustee volunteering that gives clear guidance on how to get started. It covers: What a trustee is; responsibilities of a trustee, how to research potential charities, how to find the right role, how to craft a winning application and how to get on board as a trustee, and excel in your role.

Bushra Ahmed, chair of the Small Charities Coalition, said: “A guide like this is important so that others realise, what I wasn’t told, that this route is not just for those with degrees or business qualifications, but that there is a role at the top table for those who’ve graduated from the university of life.”

There are an estimated 100,000 trustee vacancies across the UK, despite 96% of trustees saying they learned new skills from their role and 84% feeling being a trustee made them happier.

You can download a copy of the guide now.

How to Become a Charity Trustee is sponsored by Ecclesiastical Insurance, specialist insurers providing cover to 45,000 charities and not-for-profit organisations in the UK.
