The Scottish singer will perform a set for CHAS from her LA home

A Scottish singer is set perform a special charity concert from her LA home.

As part of a nationwide campaign for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), Fife-raised songwriter KT Tunstall will play a short online set and chat with fans on the charity’s Facebook page this Friday.

Tunstall is the latest entertainer to back Share Your Joy, a campaign which asks the public to share messages of support and encouragement with the hundreds of CHAS families who are shielding children with life-limiting conditions all over the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The session, which will be pre-recorded for optimised quality and so that the singer can chat to fans and CHAS supporters at the same time, will be streamed at 8pm UK time on the CHAS Facebook page and on the singer's page.

Tunstall said: ““Music is a powerful force of nature in the world, helping all of us feel more connected to each other, which is something we really need right now. I’m delighted to be playing a few tracks for CHAS this Friday. I so appreciate the purpose of this campaign – to help bring light to families who are going through the toughest of times in these already extremely challenging circumstances.”

Like many other charities left reeling from the pandemic, CHAS has had to dramatically transform the way in which it provides its increasingly important services. It has set up Scotland’s first ever virtual hospice to support children and families who are having to completely self-isolate.

The virtual hospice is now six weeks in, offering families extensive assistance, whether it relates to clinical guidance, financial advice or bereavement support, by video and phone.

Sinead Thomas, fundraising campaigns manager, said: “We’ve seen a phenomenal outpouring of support from individuals, businesses, schools and community groups throughout these last eight weeks. So many people out there have expressed empathy for the situation that many isolated shielding families, many of whom are known to and supported by CHAS, are currently facing.

“With the launch of our virtual hospice, we are doing everything we can to ensure that these children and families are still able to access CHAS services. But like any charity at this pivotal point in time, this crisis is hitting us hard and we need sustained support more than ever to be able to help the most vulnerable children in Scotland.

“We ask that if you can, please continue to share your messages of positivity and encouragement with these families and donate, if you’re able, to help us continue to develop our virtual offering. Thank you to KT for taking part in this event and helping us make a difference.”
