The Scottish Commission for Learning Disability (SCLD) has welcomed Charlie McMillan as its new chief executive.

He joins from Capability Scotland where he was director of services and development.

McMillan succeeds Chris Creegan who has taken up a new role leading an inquiry about civil society in Scotland after six years at the helm.

SCLD chair Eddie McConnell, said: “We are delighted to welcome Charlie McMillan as the new chief executive of SCLD. Charlie is widely respected throughout the learning disability sector and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm.

“He will hit the ground running, working with the Scottish Government and partners across the sector, to drive forward the newly published Implementation Framework for The keys to life Ssrategy.”

Acknowledging Creegan’s leadership, he added: “Chris has established SCLD as a strong and credible strategic partner of the Scottish Government and his contribution to shaping and re-shaping The Keys to Life strategy has secured a better future for people with learning disabilities across Scotland.

“We wish him well in his next endeavour; he goes with our heartfelt appreciation for a job brilliantly delivered at SCLD.”

Commenting on the changes taking place at SCLD, the minister for mental health, Clare Haughey MSP said: “I’m grateful to Chris Creegan for his work to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities across Scotland, in particular, his role leading The keys to life framework which we launched in March this year.

“Charlie McMillan will be a considerable asset to SCLD and I look forward to working with him and COSLA to support people with learning disabilities in their everyday lives.”
