John Hartson and Mark Hateley are set to appear in a special event for Beatson Cancer Charity

John Hartson and Mark Hateley will be appearing as teammates for the first time, as they come together to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Beatson Banter, the charity’s series of conversations with sports stars past and present to raise money for the cancer charity, continues with this Old Firm double header. The two strikers will be sharing their stories of life at the top of Scottish football during one of the sport’s most engaging golden ages.

John Hartson, who was a striker for Celtic and Wales, has experience of the kind of support the Beatson Cancer Charity provides due to his own personal cancer journey and is keen to get involved and share his insights for a great cause.

Having hung up his boots, John is now a regular pundit for S4C, Sky Sports and BT Sport and has been busy working hard with his foundation- The John Hartson Foundation- testicular cancer awareness and support.

The former Wales and Celtic striker said: “Having my own experiences with cancer and understanding the services and support the Beatson Cancer Charity provides every day, I am really delighted to get the chance to help raise money for such a great cause.

“Mark and I have plenty to say about our time at Celtic and Rangers, we both had a fantastic time and really love the fact that we can reconnect with fans while raising money for the Beatson.”

Mark Hateley will be sharing the stage with Hartson and revisiting their time at the top of Scottish football both on and off of the pitch. Starting at Portsmouth then moving to A.C Milan he then signed for Rangers in 1990.

He said: “Beatson Cancer Charity has a great reputation and I’m sure many Old Firm fans in the city will want to support them. John and I can’t wait to come together and have a good laugh, but we will always keep in mind just what we’re working towards: raising awareness and funds for a truly indispensable charity.”

Martin Cawley, chief executive of Beatson Cancer Charity, will host the evening. He said: “I hope football fans will join us on the night for what promises to be a night of banter, insight and fun for a great cause. It has been a momentous week in Scottish Football so the chance to hear from Mark and John is a phenomenal one.”

The event takes place on Thursday 25 March at 8pm and tickets (priced £10) are available now.
