A recent survey of leading charity sector figures in Scotland uncovered a worrying lack of diversity at board level.

Auditors RSM found that the majority are made up of men – many of those over the age of 66.

This calls into question their ability to reflect the communities they support.

That’s why we are asking – do we have a representation problem at a leading level in Scottish charities?

Scotland's charities need Trustees. This is not an issue of selection as far as I can see (such as has afflicted FTSE Board Rooms in the past). It is not a function of exclusion. There are vacancies - we all know that - although often they are in smaller, less prestigious charities. These organisations need to harness expertise enthusiasm and availability from wherever they can get it. If that is disproportionately 'old white men' so be it. Nobody loses.

So there we have it Janet, the misandrist, has come out as sexist and ageist. I suppose misandry and sexism go hand in glove but look I to this deeper, Janet is building her position by cosy arrangements with Chief Executives and is in both parties interest to put in place, pliable Boards of trustees.

This is also the case among charities who work in LGBT equality.
