A Community Wealth Fund for Scotland?
SCVO
This event is in the past
This conversation comes at a time when the UK Government has brought forward legislation to expand the dormant assets scheme, which would release an estimated £880m across the UK, with a share devolved to Scotland. As the Community Wealth Fund campaign pushes the government to dedicate this money to the establishment of a CWF, we hope to open up a Scottish conversation about both matters and to explore whether there should indeed be a crossover between them.
We want to bring the sector together to hear more about the CWF from colleagues at the Community Wealth Fund Alliance. We also, crucially, want to hear your views on whether this is something we should pursue together and to discuss how it might work in Scotland.
We hope you will join us for this exciting discussion; chaired by Craig Wilson, Policy and Public Affairs Officer, SCVO and with guest speaker Matt Leach, CEO, Local Trust.
OverviewAlthough thinking is still at an early stage, the idea of establishing a Community Wealth Fund (CWF) for Scotland is gradually beginning to build momentum in the voluntary sector.
In other parts of the UK the Community Wealth Fund Alliance has started to develop ideas around how such a fund might look and also how it can be financed. These include:
- Long term funding of 10-15 years
- Hyper-local investment (communities of 3,000-10,000)
- Community-led decision making
- Support to build confidence and capacity
This online event is for anyone interested in joining the conversation, including voluntary sector trustees, employees and funders.
