Universal credit - housing costs

Universal credit (UC) claimants often have difficulties getting the housing costs element included in their claim and having the right amount paid on time. This course focuses on the practical aspects of help towards rent in UC. It will help you advise confidently with an understanding of the claims process, how to deal with common problems that prevent correct payment of the housing costs element and how to support clients with rent shortfalls.

Caps and deductions
Moving home and temporary absences
Rent shortfalls and discretionary housing payments
Housing benefit for temporary or supported housing
