Why Mental Health First Aid?
In our changing world, resilience is key to being able to achieve our potential and deal with the unexpected. According to the CIPD mental ill health is now the top cause of long-term absence in the UK in 2022. Stress, depression, and anxiety are behind 44% of all cases of work-related ill-health, and 140 million days are lost each year to sickness absence.
There is so much evidence that mental health is a good indicator of how people and organisations can function and thrive, and our Mental Health First Aid Training programmes support this by:
- Encouraging positive workplace mental health.
- Enabling all employees to have a greater awareness of mental health and how to help themselves and others.
- Giving the knowledge of what the signs and symptoms of mental health issues are and the organisations that support mental health.
- Encouraging a culture that supports the breakdown of the stigma around mental health issues.
- Providing support for volunteers helping others with mental health issues.
The Mental Health Foundation highlights that mental health conditions are often hidden due to stigma and fear of discrimination. Developing a culture of communication and openness around mental health issues is key to developing the skills needed to tackle this epidemic.
