David Mandel – Stop Blaming Mothers and Ignoring Fathers
Scottish Women's Aid
This event is in the past
We bring you this special full day catered training event with David Mandel, Founder and CEO of the Safe & Together Institute.
For 20 years, the Safe & Together Model has been helping change the global response to domestic abuse and children across systems. In this one-day training designed for decision-makers, managers, and frontline staff, David Mandel, the creator of the Model, delves into the thinking behind it, focusing on two major themes:
• How drastically different expectations of mothers and fathers as parents impede effective, efficient, ethical, and safe interventions with families impacted by domestic abuse perpetrators.
• How six practice “myths” stand in the way of ethical, efficient, effective, and safe domestic abuse-informed practice and systems change.
During this training David will explore how some of the most prevalent professional ideas and theories, such as the concepts of the child witness to abuse or trauma-informed practice, can both help and hinder our work with adult and child survivors. He also walks participants through the necessity of addressing differing parenting expectations of men and women as part of any effective response to domestic abuse and children.
Participants will leave with concrete strategies for transforming their organisational policies and practices, as well as tools to assist them in building a strong common language across their agency and community.
This event will benefit both those who are new to the Safe & Together Model and experienced Safe & Together Model practitioners. We strongly encourage attendance from collaborative teams and multiple practitioners from the same agency and/or community. As the material has significant strategic implications, decision-makers, policymakers, and other leaders are strongly encouraged to attend.
Please note: This one-day event is an excellent opportunity to richly develop and enhance participants’ knowledge of the Safe & Together Model but does not replace other Safe & Together Model training, such as the CORE training.
