21st Century governance: trustees' week conference

SCVO

Session One: Modernising governance

We will take a brief look at the history of governance and then look forward to reimagine what good governance could look like in the 21st century, what needs to change, and why, to ensure sustainability and success. We'll be looking for bold, practical ideas for the future of trusteeship from our panel of sector experts and our attendees.

Session Two: Trustee update

Hear from both OSCR and a charity lawyer about important legal changes, and the themes, trends, and challenges facing charities and voluntary organisations. Bring your own questions for our experts, so you can make sure your organisation is up to date and prepared for the future.

Session Three: Strategic planning and future proofing

In an increasingly challenging environment, trustees need to understand the external factors that might impact on their organisation in 2026 and beyond. This session will use SCVO's guide to planning, Shifting Sands, to help you think about the political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental issues you need to consider. With practical guidance on how to ensure your strategic planning aligns with your organisation's values, mission and purpose, you'll also have the opportunity to learn from your peers in table discussions facilitated by experts.

Session Four: Board dynamics

Effective governance is built on the quality of relationships at board level. When these relationships work well, they build trust and enable strong decision-making. When they begin to breakdown, they risk conflict, blur boundaries, and often ultimately end in poor governance. Drawing on the Third Sector Governance Code, this session will explore how to build positive board dynamics and nurture collaboration, manage conflict constructively, and develop a high-performing board.

Overview

The SCVO trustee week conference will bring together trustees interested in good governance and future proofing their organisations to share their experience and learn from each other. We'll be celebrating all that trustees do and creating a space for connection, learning and networking. Join us to access practical support and information, new ideas and inspiration.
