Absafe, an Aberdeen-based charity which promotes hazard and safety awareness, has appointed a new marketing and corporate relations manager. Laura McIntyre joins from Petrofac, where she spent 18 months coordinating the roll-out of global internal communications campaigns. She has eight years’ communications experience with varied roles at Bread, John Lewis and Johnston Press. She said: “Absafe offers a vibrant, educational environment for learning the fundamentals of personal safety. We are supported by a committed board, dedicated team of volunteers and valued corporate partners. I look forward to sharing the positive news stories generated from Absafe, a charity at the forefront of safety education.”

Poppyscotland has appointed a new head of fundraising to lead an ambitious fundraising strategy to support Scotland’s armed forces community. RAF veteran Gordon Michie, from Fife, succeeds Colin Flinn who has moved on to become the chief executive of the Royal Caledonian Education Trust. Before joining Poppyscotland, Gordon spent 16 years working in fundraising agencies and was involved in the development of UK and overseas charities’ individual giving programmes in senior director roles. Prior to this he was a fundraiser for Worldwide Cancer Research. He began his working life in the RAF, serving from 1988 to 1995 with postings in England, Germany and closer to home at RAF Leuchars in Fife.

The chief executive of Grampian Housing Association has been elected to the policy council at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, to represent the views of housing providers. Neil Clapperton was elected by members of the chamber and will serve for three years. The policy council is made up of organisations from across the north-east and serves to represent all sectors and ensure members’ views on topical issues are heard at all levels of government. Council members support the chamber’s policy process by contributing their views at meetings, engaging with the policy team and attending chamber ministerial events and functions.
